What was the most important play of the Jets’ win over the Dolphins?

The Jets beat the Dolphins 22-21 yesterday. It is now time to figure out what the most important single play of the game was.

There are weeks where there are numerous candidates. This is not one of those weeks. I would expect most of the submissions to be one of two plays.

The Jets appeared to be in deep trouble on their final drive after Sam Darnold threw incomplete to Vyncint Smith on third and 18 from the Miami 46 with under a minute to play. The Jets would have been forced to convert a fourth and 18 play to extend the game since they were out of field goal range.

Then came a booth review, and the Dolphins were assessed a pass interference penalty to give the Jets a first down and new life.

A few plays later, Sam Ficken nailed a 44 yard field goal to give the Jets the win.

I think you could argue either play. The Ficken field goal doesn’t happen without the penalty. But if Ficken misses the kick the Jets lose, and the penalty doesn’t matter.

My choice is the penalty, but I understand the arguments for the kick.

What do you think?
