The first half of the New York Jets game against the Miami Dolphins is in the books, and the Jets lead the Dolphins 16 - 9.
The Jets opened the game moving the ball crisply behind Bilal Powell’s running before a crucial Demaryius Thomas drop on third down killed the drive at the Dolphins’ 40 yard line. The Dolphins then went on a long drive from their 4 yard line ending in a field goal to take a 3 - 0 lead. A Quinnen Williams face mask penalty extended the drive when the Dolphins were stopped on third down.
The Jets immediately responded with a scoring drive to open the second quarter, culminating in a Darnold to Robby Anderson touchdown pass. The snap was bad on the extra point attempt as the Jets took a 6 - 3 lead. Ryan Fitzpatrick then did what Ryan Fitzpatrick does, throwing an interception on the first play of the ensuing Dolphins drive to set the Jets up for a 37 yard field goal and a 9 - 3 Jets lead. Demaryius Thomas again had a crucial drop on third down to stop the Jets drive. The Dolphins then came right back with a long drive for a field goal, helped along by a James Burgess personal foul penalty, to make the score 9 - 6.
In a first half where neither defense could stop the opposing offense, the Jets marched right back down the field, punctuated by a gorgeous 41 yard Darnold dime to Robby Anderson. The drive ended in a Darnold to Thomas touchdown pass, giving the Jets a 16 - 6 lead. The Dolphins followed up with yet another scoring drive, ending in a short field goal to close out a wild first half of action. The difference so far in this game is the Jets have scored touchdowns and the Dolphins have settled for field goals.
We go into the second half with the Jets leading the Dolphins by 7 points, 16 - 9.
Enjoy the second half everybody.
