Today I’m going to take a look at Jets run sacks as I periodically do.
Sacks are among the most celebrated plays in football. If you tackle a quarterback for no gain or loss on a passing attempt, you get a ton of credit. Tackles for no gain or a loss on run plays don’t come with the same hype.
A few years back I created the run sack to celebrate these plays.
As usual, the Pro Football Reference Play Index was a helpful tool to compile Jets run sacks.
I have made one alteration to the compiling of this stat. To create an apples to apples comparison with sacks, I now list assisted tackles as half a run sack.
With all of this in mind, here are your Jets run sack leaders in 2019.

Burgess has flashed at moments recently, but I think the guy in second place deserves some mentioning. Kyle Phillips has been steadily producing impact plays in the run game, but we have barely talked about him.
And that is the very reason run sacks should exist.
