Sunday Night Football, Week 16. Tonight the Chicago Bears host the Kansas City Chiefs.
The 7-7 Bears come into this game playing only for pride, having been mathematically eliminated from the NFC playoffs last week with a loss to the Green Bay Packers. The Bears season was sunk by the uneven play of quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, who looked lost for long stretches of the 2019 season. With Trubisky finishing up his third season in the NFL as one of the worst starting quarterbacks in the league, the Bears will have to give serious consideration to upgrading at the quarterback position in the near future.
The 10-4 Chiefs clinched the AFC West title two weeks ago with a win over the New England Patriots. Now the Chiefs are playing for a first round bye, trying to overtake the Patriots for the second seed in the AFC. A loss against the Bears today would eliminate that possibility. A win would keep the Chiefs faint hopes for a bye alive, but just barely. They would still need a Patriots loss to a bad Miami Dolphins team next week, combined with a Chiefs win over the Los Angeles Chargers next week, for the Chiefs to overtake the Patriots and secure the second seed and a first round bye.
It’s the Chiefs and the Bears in a game with only the Chiefs having anything of consequence to play for on the last Sunday Night Football game of the 2019 season. Enjoy the game everybody.
