Rams vs 49ers Game Thread

The Week 16 NFL Saturday tripleheader finishes up with an all California affair, as the 11-3 San Francisco 49ers host the 8-6 Los Angeles Rams.

The 49ers come into this game tied for first in the NFC West with the Seattle Seahawks. After starting the year ripping off eight straight wins, the 49ers have struggled a bit lately. They have lost three of their last six games, including a damaging loss last week against a bad Atlanta Falcons team. The 49ers need to win tonight to start to turn things around heading into the playoffs, as well as to keep pace with the Seahawks for the NFC West crown.

The Rams come into this game as one of the biggest disapointments of the 2019 NFL season. Coming off a Super Bowl appearance last year, the Rams were widely expected to compete for a return trip to the Super Bowl this year. Instead they have struggled to find any kind of consistency, losing three of their first six games and three of their last six games, including a brutal blowout loss to the Dallas Cowboys last week. Now the Rams’ slim playoff chances are on life support, and a loss to the 49ers tonight will completely snuff them out. The Rams haven’t beaten a winning team on the road all season long; breaking that streak tonight against perhaps the best team in the NFC seems like the longest of long shots.

It’s the Rams and the 49ers in the NFC West showdown that closes the busiest Saturday of the 2019 NFL season. Enjoy the game everybody.
