ESPN’s Todd McShay has published a mock draft. In it he has the Jets selecting Georgia tackle Andrew Thomas.
7. New York Jets
Andrew Thomas, OT, Georgia*
When you invest an early draft pick in a franchise quarterback, as the Jets did with Sam Darnold in 2018, you have protect him. New York hasn’t, allowing 48 sacks this season (fourth most in the NFL). Both tackle positions could be upgraded in the offseason. Thomas is athletic and powerful, and he shows natural ability in the trenches.
Joe Burrow, Chase Young, Jerry Jeudy, Tua Tagovailoa, Jeff Okudah, and CeeDee Lamb are off the board in this mock with the picks in front of then Jets.
I think this clearly would be a popular choice in the fan base. The Jets need to address offensive line in a major way. The question is whether Thomas will be actually available when the Jets pick and not just in a McShay mock. Players will see their stock rise and fall over the next few months.
