On a chilly night in Baltimore, the New York Jets lost to the Baltimore Ravens, 42 - 21.
The first half was the Lamar Jackson show. The Jets defense could barely slow down Jackson as he ran and passed the Ravens to three touchdowns on their first three possessions. The Jets offense tried to keep pace, but they kept shooting themselves in the foot. One drive ended in a partially blocked Sam Ficken missed field goal. Another ended in a failed fourth down pass into the end zone and a turnover on downs. A third drive in the last minute of the first half ended with a Sam Darnold interception on what looked like a blown Daniel Brown route. Three scoring opportunities, zero points; it’s tough to win a football game like this.
The Jets found themselves on the wrong end of a 21 - 7 deficit at halftime. In the second half the Jets offense bogged down and the Ravens poured it on. Trevon Wesco whiffed on a block, leading to a Sam Darnold sack and lost fumble. The Ravens quickly turned that into seven points. The Jets couldn’t get anything going on offense and punted on their next possession. The Ravens then went the length of the field, culminating in a Lamar Jackson bomb for his fourth touchdown pass of the game. That gave the Ravens a 35 - 7 lead before the end of the third quarter and the rest was just extended garbage time. Jackson tacked on a 5th touchdown pass before his night was done.
With the loss the Jets record drops to 5-9 on the year, with a home game against a tough Pittsburgh Steelers team on tap next week.
