In the first half the Jets started hot, with Sam Darnold marching the team crisply down the field to score an opening drive touchdown for the second game in a row. Unfortunately, that drive would prove to be the high point of the game for the Jets.
The Dolphins responded with 21 unanswered points as the Jets pass defense was helpless to stop Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Dolphins’ receivers. A late safety and ensuing field goal by the Jets kept the game respectable at 21 - 12 in favor of the Dolphins at the half.
The two teams bogged down to a war of attrition in the second half, exchanging field goals to bring the score to 24 - 15 with less than 7 minutes to play. A botched Jets snap through the back of the end zone gave the Dolphins a safety to make the score 26 - 15 and the game at that point was all but over.
With the loss the Jets record drops to 1 - 7, with a game against the New York Giants and old friend Leonard Williams on tap next week. This is as low as it gets ... until next week. It is fair at this point to make the argument the Jets are the worst team in the NFL.
