Sam Darnold officially ruled out for Jets vs. Eagles game

Head coach Adam Gase offered an update on the status of quarterback Sam Darnold for Sunday’s game against the Eagles. It was not the news the Jets were hoping to get.

This doesn’t come as an enormous shock. The Jets even admitted at the start of the week that Darnold would not be able to play had this been a Thursday night game. Getting him back for Sunday was always a bit of a dicey bet.

Luke Falk is set to make his second career start on Sunday against the Eagles. The Jets will presumably need to sign a quarterback between now and then since Falk and Darnold are the only two quarterbacks on the roster.

Darnold was practicing this week so it isn’t clear exactly how the reps were split. Presumably the Jets had to know this was a distinct possibility so hopefully the coaching staff gave Falk enough work to prepare him.
