His return to the lineup sparked a Jets win. Now Sam Darnold has earned AFC Player of the Week honors for his stellar outing against the Cowboys.

The second-year signal-caller completed 71.9% of his passes (23-for-32) for 338 yards, three yards shy of tying his career high, two touchdowns and one interception for a 117.6 passer rating. The award comes following the 22-year-old’s first game back from a bout with mono that caused his to miss three games.

Darnold is also a finalist for the FedEx Air Player of the Week for his efforts during Week 6. To vote for the USC product, you can visit or the NFL Twitter page. Voting will conclude Thursday Oct. 17 at 3 p.m. ET and the winner will be announced later that afternoon.

It is difficult to overstate how much of a spark Darnold provided this football team. Now we will see whether he can carry it forward to the game against New England.
