The Jets have activated Chris Herndon off the suspension list and cleared the necessary roster spot by waiving Frankie Luvu.

Herndon’s suspension ended last week, but the Jets had the option to keep him from taking up a roster spot for an extra week. After Herndon suffered a hamstring injury, that exemption proved useful. It expired today, however, so the tight end needed to be activated. It isn’t clear how close his return is, although head coach Adam Gase expressed some cautious optimism about his improvement on Monday.
Luvu seemingly got caught up in a numbers game. He was an odd man out at the edge spot. He has not been able to build off a moderately productive rookie season. He still has practice squad eligibility so he could end up there. He was a project of previous regimes, however, so it isn’t immediately clear how much interest the Jets will have in bringing him back.
