The Jets won on Sunday, which means we get to reward our first game ball (or anti-anti-game ball if you prefer) of the 2019 season.
Generally speaking, I try to avoid giving the game ball to the quarterback. It is too obvious. If the team won, it is very likely the quarterback was good.
I think these are special circumstances, though. The Jets looked like a lost team the first four games of the season. The offense was particularly terrible.
Darnold’s return galvanized the unit and the team. He wasn’t the only reason the Jets won, but he was the biggest. His ability to change plays at the line, move within the pocket, and throw into tight windows helped move the offense.
This team needed something positive, and Darnold delivered it.
With all of that in mind, I am bending my own rules and awarding him my Week 6 game ball.
Who gets yours?
