Final Score: Jets 24, Cowboys 22

NFL: Dallas Cowboys at New York Jets Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

On a beautiful cool and sunny mid autumn afternoon in East Rutherford, in the Jets’ fifth game of the 2019 season, the New York Jets defeated the Dallas Cowboys, 24 - 22.

On a day in which the Jets got back their starting quarterback, Sam Darnold, along with several other of the recently missing, the Jets finally looked like the team Jets fans hoped they could be coming into the season.

The Jets dominated the action in the first half, taking a commanding 21 - 3 lead before the Cowboys closed to 21 - 6 on a long 62 yard field goal to close out the half. The Jets went on a long touchdown drive on their second possession of the game to take an early 7 - 0 lead, their first lead since the first game of the season. The Jets offense then bogged down until late in the half, when Sam Darnold connected on a 92 yard bomb to Robby Anderson. The Jets followed that up by stopping the Cowboys, then marching right down the field with another touchdown drive to go up 21 - 3.

The second half was a very different story, as the Jets held on for dear life, watching their lead slowly dwindle until the Cowboys pulled to within a two point conversion of tying the game with less than a minute to go. On the crucial two point attempt, Jamal Adams sealed the deal with pressure on Dak Prescott, which forced an incompletion. The Cowboys almost recovered a last gasp onsides kick on the ensuing kickoff, but the Jets ultimately secured a bobbled ball and then ran out the clock to secure a hard fought home victory.

The Jets finally get a win on the books in the fifth game of the season. With the win the Jets record improves to 1 - 4, with a game against the Patriots looming next week. For one week at least, Sam Darnold looks legitimate, the Jets look like a real NFL football team and we can finally celebrate a victory.
