Jets and Steve McLendon agree to a contract extension

NFL: New York Jets at New England Patriots David Butler II-USA TODAY Sports

The Jets and nose tackle Steve McLendon have agreed to terms on a contract extension.

The 33 year old McLendon is in his fourth season with the Jets. He signed as a free agent from Pittsburgh prior to the 2016 season and re-signed this offseason.

While McLendon is not an every down player, he fills his nose tackle role effectively. Throughout his tenure there have always been talk about him being a positive locker room force as well.

With the Jets likely out of the Playoff race, management should be looking forward to 2020. It makes sense to get to work re-signing upcoming free agents the team wishes to retain and seeking trades for the free agents the front office does not want to bring back. McLendon clearly fits the former category.
