The 2018 NFL Playoffs continue today with the second game of a Sunday doubleheader. The defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles travel to Chicago, Illinois to take on the Monsters of the Midway.
The 9-7 Philadelphia Eagles went on a timely hot streak to close out the 2018 season, winning five of their final six games to secure the sixth and final NFC playoff seed. That was a big comeback from when they were sitting at 4-6, seemingly out of playoff contention. Nick Foles has once again stepped in for an injured Carson Wentz and delivered. Nonetheless, this is a thoroughly unimpressive Eagles team. The offense is average, as is the defense. The running game stinks, and the pass defense is worse. They don’t generate defensive turnovers enough, and they turn the ball over on offense too much. It will be a miracle if this disappointing Eagles teams makes a deep run in the playoffs.
The 12-4 Chicago Bears come into this game as legitimate Super Bowl contenders. Winners of nine of their last 10 games, the Bears are as hot as any team in the NFL. They feature a ferocious defense ranked first in the NFL in points allowed. The Bears defense is also first in the NFL in turnovers, first in rushing yards allowed, first in first downs allowed, and first in rushing TDs allowed. This is a dominant Bears defense. The offense, on the other hand, is nothing to write home about. The Bears offense turns the ball over too much and features a very mediocre passing game. If the Bears are to win this game it will likely be on the backs of their dominant defense. In an age of prolific scoring the Bears defense has limited opponents to 17 points or less a remarkable 10 out of 16 games. At home, where the Bears are 7-1 this year, it will be a very difficult task for the Eagles to put up enough points against this rugged Bears defense to pull out a victory.
It’s the Eagles and the Bears to close out this Wild Card weekend.
Enjoy the game everybody.
