Gang Green Nation Reader Spotlight: ProfScorpio

The Basics:

What’s your name and/or username? Scorpio Rogers/ProfScorpio

What city/state do you live in? New Rochelle, NY

How old are you? 4 years older than I look.

The Miscellaneous:

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given? Tie Between two (1) When you get married you have your bills, her bills and joint bills. You pay your bills, have her pay her bills and split the joint bills. Through 20 years of marriage this has worked well for me. (2) If you were smart, you would quit your job, and take all the time you put working for them and making them money into your own business and make money for yourself. GREAT advice even though I didn’t take it.

If you could grab lunch with anybody in the past, present or future—dead or alive, who would it be and why? Tough decision. The answer has always been Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., but I’m going to change for this survey and say President Barrack Obama. I’m going to bring my son and have Barrack (we’ll get to be on a 1st name basis) bring his two daughters. My son is between them in age. I’d love to use the lunch conversation as a networking opportunity for my son and myself.

If you were stranded on a deserted island for the rest of forever, which musical artist would you be listening to, and which television series would you be watching? Tough choice. I was a DJ for 16 years. There are a lot of greats, but I think I’m going with Digital Underground for music. For TV series I’m going to go with Dr. Who. I’m not really a fan of the show, but it started in 1963 (the year of my birth) and is still going. There are over 850 episodes and more are being made. The rest of forever is a long time so I want as much variety as possible.

The Jets Related Questions:

How did you become a Jets fan? I started watching football in the early 80’s when I began participating in football betting sheets. I bet 4 games & get 10 – 1 if all four win. I’d get 3 out of 4 every week without knowing the teams. So I decided if I watched, I’d get 4 out of 4 every week (reality is I’d then get 1 or 2 out of 4) During those days (and still today) I rooted for both Jets and Giants. Then around ‘93 a co-worker started selling me his season Jets tickets at cost. After a year or so the Jets became an obsession. I wear Jets hats and a Jets bracelet every day.

What’s your favorite Jets memory? What about your most painful Jets memory? Favorite is easily the Monday Night Miracle. I NEVER leave until the game is over. Everyone in my section left, except the friend I came with (a neutral fan) and 1 other Jet fan (Keith), and the Miami Fans descended down to where I was (about row 26) and were crucifying me. I stood up on my chair and keep shouting back at them after each Jet score. At the end of the game as they slinked out of the stadium, a few gave me a high five as respect for being one of the only Jets fans to stay. I have left the stadium a few times being mad beyond belief and feeling that ‘this was a loss that I’ll never forget’. I can’t remember any of them. I don’t hold onto negative stuff I can’t impact for very long. I will say when Ben Roethlisberger tossed that pass in the 2010 AFC championship game (Jan 2011) to seal the win and go to the Super Bowl. That is my most painful memory.

In your humble opinion, who is the most dominant Jet to ever play and why? Curtis Martin. He couldn’t be stopped and opponents knew he was getting the ball.

Who is your favorite Jets player and why? Curtis Martin – He played hard, played well and did it with style and humility. He was a quiet leader.

If Woody Johnson handed you a blank check and gave you a choice to be a part of the New York Jets organization in any capacity, which position would you choose, and why? (It could be GM, Head Coach, Quarterback, Linebacker, Head of Scouting, Waterboy—the sky is the limit). If he said ANY capacity I choose & the sky is the limit, I would write the amount of Woody’s entire fortune on the check and hand it back to him and tell him that I just bought the team. I’d want to be the Owner! Why??? – It would be a fantasy dream come true to be the owner of my favorite hometown team.

Mike Maccagnan and Todd Bowles are both fired and Woody Johnson decides to name you the next GM, giving you one very clear goal: win the Super Bowl within the next 4 years. What is your strategy to make the Jets a Super Bowl winner? What is your strategy to build this team into a perennial Super Bowl contender? Remember that picture of the Packers Coaching staff with all of those future head coaches. The first thing I’m doing is I’m bringing in all the BEST coaches and telling them that I’m putting together an ‘ALL STAR’ coaching staff (think current NBA player model except for coaches) and I’m triple paying them to work together. With ideas from me, we’ll mutually agree on who’s the Head coach and the pick – OC, DC, QB coach, etc. I know that’s a lot of ego’s but I tell them we have 1 GOAL – WIN 3 NFL Championships in a row within the next 5 Years. Then with input from their great football minds, I put together a great scouting department and a great analytics department. Then we draft the consensus players, and get them coached up and go win a Super Bowl with a mobile, exciting QB, dominant lines and innovative play calling on all three sides of the ball.
