NY Jets First Mock Off-Season

Did this using spotrac.com for cuts and free agency, then fanspeak for the draft:

Cuts:

Spencer Long, C - saves all $6.5M in cap

Brian Winters, G - saves all $6.5M in cap

Isaiah Crowell, RB - saves $3M in cap, $2M dead money

Notable Resigns:

Robby Anderson, WR - $7M/year - Most Productive Receiver, 7 million is the guaranteed money but has incentive based contract to make up to $14M

Jason Myers, K - $3.5M/year - starting kicker

Andre Roberts, KR/PR, WR - $2.5M/year - starting returner

Jonnothan Harrison, G/C - $950k/year - backup utility interior lineman

Doug Middleton, FS - $650K/year - Solid contributor who could probably start on some teams at FS and is a star on special teams for us. We have rights to him at vet min next year

Big Money Free Agents:

Trey Flowers, 4-3 DE, - $15M/year - I don't think there's anyway the Pats can afford to keep him. With $20M in cap space next year they are likely to not shell it all out on one defensive player, just look at their history. He's a 4-3 DE who averaged a sack per game on the last 8 games this season. Perfect fit for our new defense.

Trent Brown, LT, - $13M/year - Came in and had a solid season starting at left tackle for the Pats, the highest graded Left Tackle in the playoffs per PFF beating out household names Tyron Smith and Andrew Whitworth. Also he's only 25 years old. The Pats just drafted Isaiah Wynn who should be recovered and ready next year. Brown is projected to make 12-13M/year on the market, that's most of the Pats cap, I say they let both Brown and Flowers walk. My dream scenario is the Jets making both of these players their top FA priority. Trent Brown is well worth the money, basically cap wise we traded the combo of Long and Winters for one of the leagues newest premiere left tackles.

Anthony Barr, 4-3 OLB, - $10M/year - We are going to need another 4-3 OLB, Anthony Barr is one of the leagues premiere players at the position and is no longer affordable to Minnesota after they overspent on Kirk Cousins.

Rodger Saffold, OG, - $12M/year - An older veteran thats top 5 at his position, would be a polar shift plugging him into the LG spot which was one of our worst performing spots on the line in 2018. He will come in and immediately anchor the interior offensive line.

Mid Tier Free Agents:

Tevin Coleman, RB, - $6.5M/year - A solid strong back that'd complement Eli McGuire nicely who is motivated to prove he could be a bellcow. Freeman prevented that in Atlanta but may have an opportunity to be that for the Jets at a quarter of the price of Leveon Bell.

Brett Jones, C/G, - $4M/year - Looked like the NY Giants future at center, they foolishly traded to the Vikings where he started over an injured Pat Elflein at center and held his own. Can also play guard and likely won't be the focus for Minnesota with their limited cap situation. We can pencil him in at Center, but then if we draft a center in this deeper than normal center class, he can kick out to RG.

Budget Free Agents:

Darqueze Dennard, CB, - $4.5M/year - Showed some flash toward the end in Cincy of possibly growing into a #1 CB down the road. Maybe like Eli Apple, he just needs a change in scenery. After blowing a big contract on Trumaine Johnson, the Jets need to find a hungry younger unproven player to take a chance on to come in and add competition at CB.

POST FA SALARY CAP: $32M

DRAFT (fan speak - no trades):

Round 1 Pick 1 - Cards take Nick Bosa, DE

Round 1 Pick 2 - 49ers take Josh Allen, LB

Round 1 Pick 3 - Jets take Quinnen Williams, DT, Alabama - Best player on the board and gives us 3 dynamic impact players on our 4-3 front between Quinnen Williams, Leonard Williams and Trey Flowers.

Round 3 Pick 4 - Parris Campbell, WR, Ohio State - One of my top 3 receivers ceiling wise in the draft. Only showed one year of excellent production in 2018 because of bad QB play in 2017, can be an explosive #1 WR for us. Is this the next Michael Thomas?

Round 3 Pick 29 - Elgton Jenkins, C, Mississippi State - Probably the best center in the draft, will probably be gone by the 2nd round after today's showing at the Senior Bowl. But for now, I'll take him here. IRL if we cant trade down for him, I'd settle with A&M's Erik McCoy or NC State's Bradbury here. But Elgton Jenkins is one of the prospects I want the most for us.

Round 4 Pick 3 - Lonnie Johnson Jr, CB, Kentucky - A solid cover corner for Kentucky and a steal in the 4th round. He can go in and compete with Darqueze Dennard for that outside CB job right away

Round 5 Pick 2 - Benny Snell Jr, RB, Kentucky - 2 Jr's from Kentucky. The best piece of Kentucky's offense averaging 5.1 ypc and scoring 29 touchdowns in his career, Snell is a great addition to Coleman and McGuire to form a suddenly stout Jets backfield

Round 7 Pick 3 - Iman Marshall, CB, USC - A starter at USC from his freshman year, he stayed consistent in his sophomore and is a young prospect coming into the draft early. I say we take a shot on as many young promising CBs as possible.

New Jets Depth Chart

Offense:

QB - Sam Darnold, Davis Webb

RB - Tevin Coleman, Benny Snell, Eli McGuire

WR - Parris Campbell, Robby Anderson, Quincy Enunwa, Andre Roberts, Deontay Burnett

TE - Chris Herndon, Neal Sterling, Jordan Leggett

LT - Trent Brown, Kelvin Beachum

LG - Rodger Saffold, Jonnothan Harrison

C - Elgton Jenkins, Brett Jones

RG - Brett Jones, Jonnothan Harrison

RT - Brandon Shell, Kelvin Beachum

4-3 Defense

DE - Trey Flowers, Frankie Luvu

DT - Leonard Williams, Nathan Sheppard

DT - Quinnen Williams, Foley Fatukasi

DE - Mike Pennel, Jordan Jenkins

SLB - Anthony Barr, Anthony Wint

MLB - Avery Williamson, Kevin Pierre Louis

WLB - Darron Lee, Neville Hewitt

CB - Trumaine Johnson, Parry Nickerson, Darqueze Dennard, Lonnie Johnson Jr, Iman Marshall

SS - Jamal Adams, Terrence Brooks

FS - Marcus Maye, Doug Middleton

K - Jason Myers

P - Lac Edwards

KR/PR - Andre Roberts

Now the Jets should be competitive with most AFC teams, hold the Chiefs. With development from Sam Darnold this can be a team that goes deep into playoffs during his sophomore year.
