Gregg Williams is on the verge of becoming the next defensive coordinator of the Jets according to Adam Schefter.
Jets finalizing deal with former Browns’ interim HC Gregg Williams to become their defensive coordinator, per source. Williams was the defensive coordinator the Jets were targeting no matter who their HC was; they got their man.

I’m not really sure I understand what the “targeting no matter who their HC was,” part means, but I’m sure this will be a popular hire.
Williams was able to rehabilitate his image in a big way in 2018. He took over as interim head coach of the Browns after Hue Jackson was fired and led a team that seemed to be going nowhere to a 5-3 record over the final eight games of the season. There was actually Playoff buzz in Cleveland in December, which has not been a regular occurrence.
If you follow Williams’ career from the beginning, his record is very up and down as a coordinator with some big years and other years that were less than stellar. His stock is very high right now, which is presumably why the Jets targeted him.
