Connor Cook works out with the Jets

NFL: Green Bay Packers at Oakland Raiders Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Jets brought in free agent quarterback Connor Cook for a visit yesterday as reported by Pro Football Talk.

Connor Cook visited the Jets on Tuesday, a source told PFT.

The Raiders cut Cook over the weekend after trading for A.J. McCarron.

We know the Jets were in the market for a developmental arm, presumably to run the scout team. PFT doesn’t specify whether Cook visited before or after the team agreed to sign Davis Webb to its practice squad. If the visit was before, the Jets might have simply chosen Webb. If it was after, it might be a sign we could see the third quarterback spot on the team change once or twice through the year as the Jets want a look at some different options.

Cook was a fourth round pick out of Michigan State two years ago. Almost all of his playing time came in a Wild Card Game against the Texans as a rookie when multiple injuries at the quarterback position pushed him into a starting role in the Playoffs. He turned in one of the worst quarterbacking performances in NFL Playoff history, completing only 18 of 45 passes for 161 yards with 1 touchdown and 3 interceptions.
