Stewart was a third round pick of the Jets last season. He caught only 6 passes as a rookie and began 2018 on the suspended list. After his suspension, the Jets waived him. He evidently went unclaimed on waivers, which gives him another chance to make an impact in the Jets organization.
It doesn’t speak well for anybody that Stewart went through the waiver process unclaimed. The Jets did after all use a third round pick on him just a year ago. The other 31 teams had a chance to look at their scouting reports and film and decided he wasn’t worth being a cheap 53rd guy on the roster. That is not great stuff.
Burnett spent training camp with the Tennessee Titans. A college teammate of Sam Darnold, he signed with New York’s practice squad earlier in the month.
