The season got off to the worst start imaginable for the Jets. On the first pass attempt of his career, Sam Darnold threw a pick six, and it was an ugly pick six.
That was the low point of the evening. The Jets dominated the game from that point on. They broke the game open with 31 unanswered points in the third quarter, including touchdowns in all three phases of the game, to rout the Lions 48-17.
Darnold was solid after the interception, completing 16 of his 21 passes for 198 yards, 2 touchdowns, and that 1 pick on the evening.
On defense, the Jets held Detroit to 10 points and recorded 5 interceptions of Detroit quarterbacks. Darron Lee had a pair, while Jamal Adams had his first career pick in the fourth quarter.
And the Jets actually looked great on special teams as Andre Roberts returnsed a punt for a touchdown.
Celebrate below. We will have more to come tonight and tomorrow.
