Jets 2018 Roster Countdown: Number 22 Trumaine Johnson

Trumaine Johnson is the next player up in our roster countdown.

Name: Trumaine Johnson

Number: 22

Year with Jets: 1st

Projected Role: Superstar cornerback

His 2017: Johnson’s final season with the Rams was a bit of a down year. He allowed the fifth most cover yards in the league according to PFF. That didn’t prevent the Jets from giving him a huge contract which made him one of the richest defensive players in the league.

2018 will be a success if: Johnson plays at an All Pro level. It’s that simple. He is getting paid as though he is an elite shutdown corner who can be left on an island and take away elite receivers. Beyond the contract, however, the Jets are constructed to have Johnson fill that role. There isn’t much of a pass rush on this team. The Jets are going to need to blitz heavily and trust that the secondary can hold up one on one. Johnson is going to draw the toughest assignments on a weekly basis. His ability to play at a superstar level will likely go a long way toward determining this team’s fate in 2018.

Odds of making the roster: Lock (>99%)
