Jamal Adams gets the next look in our Jets roster countdown.

Name: Jamal Adams

Number: 33

Year with Jets: 2nd

Projected Role: Star safety

His 2017: Adams had an up and down rookie season. He was occasionally very good and occasionally very bad. His rough weeks tended to come in coverage. PFF had him allowing the 11th most passing yardage at the safety position. Still, there were flashes of quality play that could be a sign of hope for the future.

2018 will be a success if: Adams grows into one of the best safeties in the league and provides the Jets with Pro Bowl quality play. People tend to say I am putting too much pressure on a young player when I say something like this, but impact play has to come from somewhere for the team to have success. That somewhere is a first round pick. There aren’t many safeties who change a game in the NFL. That’s why very few are selected as high as sixth overall. The Jets wouldn’t have taken Adams there if they were expecting anything less.

Odds of making the roster: Not much doubt here. Lock (>99%)
