Let’s take a look at Jets defensive snap totals for the Jets in last night’s preseason loss to the Giants.
The first thing that jumps out to me is how Avery Williamson did not leave the field with the first team defense. Williamson was a two down linebacker last year with the Titans. The Jets’ depth at the position had some speculate he might find himself in the same role with the Jets, who have a deep group of inside linebackers. However, he remained on the field for as many snaps as Darron Lee, Jamal Adams, Morris Claiborne, and Trumaine Johnson. Those are four defenders who will rarely leave the field if healthy for the Jets.
When we gave the offensive snap totals, I mentioned how ominous Chad Hansen’s low snap total seemed. I will now say the same about Lorenzo Mauldin. The 2015 third rounder only took part in 2 defensive snaps. That can’t be good for his roster chances.
