The New York Jets have signed former Kansas City Chiefs running back Charcandrick West.

West is a 27 year old, 5’ 10”, 205 pound running back out of Abilene Christian University. West was originally signed by the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2014. He spent his entire career to date with the Chiefs.

Charcandrick West has racked up 999 rushing yards on 266 carries for a 3.8 yard average, and 552 receiving yards on 75 receptions for a 7.4 yard average for his career. His most productive year came in 2015, when ran for 634 yards and had an additional 214 yards receiving.

West profiles as a third down type back who probably can’t be counted on to fill a lead back role. West’s chances of sticking with the Jets at this late date might depend on injuries, as the Jets have a somewhat crowded backfield with players like Bilal Powell and Trenton Cannon occupying somewhat similar roles. The short term injury of Elijah McGuire might open up a spot for West, and if the Jets feel Cannon isn’t ready and try to put him on the practice squad West’s chances of sticking would greatly increase.
