Doug Middleton is the next player to get a look in our Jets roster countdown.

Projected Role: Safety depth

His 2017: Middleton tore a pec in the preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans and missed the entire season.

2018 will be a success if: Middleton can make the roster and provide some depth in subpackages. Helping the team on special teams would not hurt his cause either. Rontez Miles’ injury could create an opening for a guy like Middleton on that front. The Appalachian State product also has practice squad eligibility so he could catch on there as well.

Odds of making the roster: Safety is a relatively full spot for the Jets, but Middleton was generating a bit of optimism last year. Perhaps I am being overly optimistic, but I think he could sneak onto the roster with a strong finish to the preseason. I put him at 50/50.
