Our Jets roster countdown now turns to Kacy Rodgers II.
Name: Kacy Rodgers II
Number: 39
Year with Jets: 1st
Projected Role: Competing for depth spot in the secondary
His 2017: Rodgers appeared in 15 games for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL, recording 1 interception, 2 forced fumbles, and 54 tackles. Rodgers signed with the Jets during the offseason, a team which employs Rodgers’ father as defensive coordinator.
2018 will be a success if: Rodgers can carve out a role on the team in subpackages and on special teams. While he does have practice squad eligibility, at 26 he is probably too old to give one of those spots reserved for developmental players.
Odds of making the roster: When a team signs the son of an unpopular coach, there will always be charges of nepotism. I can’t speak to that one way or another, but I don’t see Rodgers making this team, regardless of his father’s job. I call him a Longshot (less than 25%).
