Buster Skrine is next up in our Jets roster countdown.
Name: Buster Skrine
Number: 41
Year with Jets: 4th
Projected Role: Slot cornerback
His 2017: Skrine had some excellent games, such as a stellar late season performance in a game against the Saints. For the most part, however, his hovered between poor and terrible. By the end of the year, PFF’s stats show him allowing the 9th most completions and 12th most yardage in coverage among cornerbacks in the NFL.
2018 will be a success if: Skrine plays consistently well for a full season. It hasn’t happened yet for the veteran cornerback. When he is playing well, he plays some spectacular football. Those stretches come infrequently, however. And when he is bad, he is really bad. Those stretches come too frequently.
Odds of making the roster: It was conceivable albeit unlikely at the start of camp that rookie Parry Nickerson could edge Skrine out for the slot role. Skrine carries a fairly large cap hit, little of which would be dead money if cut before Week 1. Nickerson’s camp injury seems to have ended any chance of that happening. Skrine is Probable (75-99%).
