The Jets have checked in with the Oakland Raiders to discuss the possibility of trading for Khalil Mack, according to Manish Mehta.
Gang Green has reached out to the Oakland Raiders to express its interest in trading for perennial All-Pro outside linebacker Khalil Mack, according to league sources.
Oakland, however, has shown no interest in discussing a trade of the star holdout.
Oakland has told interested clubs that it will not part with the tour-de-force edge pass rusher, whose holdout has extended to 27 days.
Mack is arguably the best pass rusher on the planet. With his contract situation up in the air, I don’t think Mike Maccagnan would be doing his job if he didn’t check in.
The Jets’ current cap situation would allow them to fit a lucrative Mack extension easily into their salary structure after a hypothetical trade. The team also has a big need at the position he plays.
But Mack’s immense talent means the most logical solution for Oakland is to ultimately sign him long-term. It also would mean the Jets would face heavy competition on the trade market if the Raiders ever did make him available. Mehta notes that a dozen teams have spoken with Oakland about Mack.
