Sports Illustrated’s Monday Morning Quarterback column has come out with its annual NFL predictions, and Jets fans are in for a pleasant surprise. As everyone knows, predictions are stupid, unless they predict good things for the Jets, in which case they are preternaturally brilliant. Sports Illustrated, clearly the preeminent publication in all of sports journalism and a paragon of intelligence, virtue and flat out genius, has gone the brilliant route in 2018.
Bucking the general trend of national sports outlets predicting continuing pain and frustration for Jets fans, the esteemed Sports Illustrated predicts the Jets will finish the 2018 season with a winning record at 9-7, and will sneak into the 6th and final AFC playoff spot. You can read all about it here.
The party ends early for Jets fans, as Sports Illustrated predicts a loss in the Wild Card round to the Chargers. However, just making it back to the playoffs for the first time since 2010, with a rookie quarterback no less, would be a welcome development for Jets fans everywhere.
And just to stir up a few old memories, we all remember what happened the last time a 9-7 Jets team with a rookie quarterback out of USC faced off as underdogs to a Philip Rivers led Chargers team, right? Does 17-14, Jets, and a trip to the AFC Championship game ring a bell? Can’t wait!
