Reports from Florham Park today suggest the third overall pick in the Draft, Sam Darnold had a very nice day at training camp.
Sam Darnold ... wow. Stood tall in pocket & delivered perfect pass for long completion to Kearse down seam. Threw back-shoulder pass.

Here’s the progress: Darnold tried and missed similar throw to Hansen yesterday. #Jets
Darnold perfectly sold PA. Got Mauldin to commit inside, he then sprinted out. Hit Sterling in flat. Likely a touchdown in a game. Terrence Brooks tapped Sterling around two yard line in practice #Jets

Darnold & ArDarius Stewart are developing some good chemistry #Jets

Wow. Really impressive touch pass from Darnold to Dimitri Flowers for touchdown. Play-action fake. Flowers snuck into flat. Darnold put it right over defender (in extremely tight coverage) for the score. Rookie having a good day #Jets

And another one. Darnold to Walford for TD. Play-action rollout. Walford was wide open. Darnold cooking. #Jets

After the saga that was getting Darnold signed and into camp, this is a delightful development.
This is of course only one day of practice. We wouldn’t suggest that Darnold is a bust after a bad practice so we also shouldn’t blow one big day out to be more than it is. So let’s keep this Thursday success in the proper perspective.
With that said, days like this make you smile. It is only a matter of time before Darnold takes over the starting role and keeps it for a decade plus if all goes right. With the starting quarterback position up for grabs, Darnold’s arrival date in the starting job could come sooner rather than later if we see training camp practices like this on a consistent basis.
