Our Jets roster countdown now looks at Avery Williamson.
Name: Avery Williamson
Number: 54
Year with Jets: 1st
Projected Role: Starting inside linebacker counted upon to stop the run
His 2017: Williamson had an excellent fourth season in the NFL, recording 92 tackles despite having a two down role for the Titans. Having established himself as one of the best run stopping linebackers in the league, he took a lucrative contract offer to move to the Jets in free agency.
2018 will be a success if: Williamson proves to be a capable replacement for Demario Davis. Davis surprisingly put together a stellar campaign where he was excellent against the run and arguably the best player on the team. The Jets let him leave in free agency presumably because they thought Williamson was up to the task. We might expect Williamson to leave the field less on passing downs than he did with the Titans, but like Davis his focus will be on stopping the run. Darron Lee will handle the tougher assignments.
Odds of making the roster: Williamson is a Lock (>99%).
