Our Jets roster countdown now takes a look at Brian Winters.
Name: Brian Winters
Number: 67
Year with Jets: 6th
Projected Role: Starting right guard
His 2017: Winters scored a lucrative new contract in the offseason, but the first year of the new deal did not go particularly well. He allowed 5 sacks and 30 total pressures according to PFF, which put him in the bottom 12 of both stats at guard. Winters revealed after the season that he played most of 2017 with an abdominal tear. That is a possible explanation for some of his struggles, although his level of play last season matched what we have seen for most of his career.
2018 will be a success if: Winters gives the Jets a quality right guard. It’s that simple. The Jets are paying good money, and they need better play. The structure of Winters’ deal means the Jets could cut him after the season with no dead money if he has another poor campaign.
Odds of making the roster: For this year, however, he is going to be a Jet. He is a Lock (>99%).
