Our Jets roster countdown now moves to Brent Qvale.
Name: Brent Qvale
Year with Jets: 5th
Projected Role: Backup offensive lineman/situational jumbo tight end/blocker on special teams units
His 2017: Injuries netted Qvale six starts on the offensive line. Anecdotally, I thought he struggled mightily when he was in the lineup. If you buy into Pro Football Focus stats, they suggest the same thing. Qvale did not participate in enough snaps to qualify among the league leaders in their Pass Blocking Efficiency stat, but his 92.5 would have put him in the bottom tier of the league had he qualified.
2018 will be a success if: Qvale can develop into a passable backup at multiple positions. Unfortunately since he is a 27 year old former undrafted free agent, I don’t have much optimism this will happen.
Odds of making the roster: His $1.9 million cap hit isn’t guaranteed and is awfully pricey for a scrap heap level player. He could definitely be beaten out by a cheaper option. With that said, Qvale seems to be one of those guys the people running the Jets seem to be higher on than most of us are so I say he is Probable (75-99%).
