According to Ian Rapoport, New York Jets running back Elijah McGuire fractured his foot on the first day of training camp yesterday and is expected to miss a substantial amount of time.
#Jets RB Elijah McGuire, who figured to have a key role in the backfield, has suffered a fracture in his foot, source said. He’s going to require surgery and will miss an extended period. Depending on how long, he could be a candidate to return off Injured Reserve.— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) July 28, 2018
The Jets had hoped the second year running back McGuire would take a more substantial role in the offense this year. Some on the Jets staff even went so far as to compare him to LaDainian Tomlinson. Unfortunately for the Jets and McGuire, that will have to wait. Bilal Powell, Isaiah Crowell and whomever else makes the Jets roster at running back will have to fill the void created by McGuire’s injury until he is able to get back on the field. Whether that return comes in 2018 or later remains to be seen.
