Earlier today we found out the Jets were signing defensive lineman Shaneil Jenkins. To make room on the roster, the team announced it has released Courtney Upshaw.

Upshaw was placed on the non-football injury list yesterday. One wonders whether that led to this move.
To make room for DE Shaneil Jenkins, the #Jets released DE Courtney Upshaw (non-football injury list). Todd Bowles was cryptic yesterday on Upshaw, saying they put him on NFI because “we saw a few things.” Sounded like a conditioning issue.

Something definitely seems to be up. Upshaw has a track record in the league, and Jenkins isn’t likely to be more than a camp body. This definitely appears to be a move meant to send a message. Whatever Bowles saw in Upshaw he clearly did not like, and now he is gone.
