Sam Darnold’s still hasn’t signed contract on rookie reporting day, but nobody is worried yet

Today was rookie reporting day for the Jets at training camp, but there was a very notable absence.

I would be inclined to say it is premature to have any worries about this situation. As long as Darnold is signed and in camp by Friday, there won’t be any harm done.

With that said, the Jets seem to be doing their best to give their fans indigestion. With the rookie wage scale in place, there shouldn’t have been many hurdles to getting this deal done well before rookies were supposed to report.

The good news is nobody will ever remember this as long as the two sides agree to terms and get a contract signed before that first practice. Then we will all turn to overanalyzing every Darnold movement at training camp and figuring out how it will impact the team’s starting quarterback competition. We are close to all of that summer fun.
