Darrelle Revis will sign a one day contract with the Jets today so that he can officially retire as a member of the team. He will also speak with the media about his career, his decision to retire, and his future.
Revis’ two stints with the Jets were not boring. The team traded up to select him in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft. He stayed with the team until a 2013 trade to Tampa Bay. In 2015, he returned in free agency for two more years before his decline led to his release.
Revis’ relationship with the team and its fans was frequently strained due to acrimonious contract negotiations and his decision to sign with the hated Patriots in 2014. At his peak, however, he was a special talent, the best defensive player in the National Football League.
