Our Jets roster countdown now takes a look at Bucky Hodges.
Name: Bucky Hodges
Year with Jets: 1st
Projected Role: Possible practice squader/depth tight end
His 2017: Hodges was a sixth round pick of the Minnesota Vikings. He was waived with an injury designation after suffering a concussion in the preseason. After he recovered, he was formally released from injured reserve and signed to Carolina’s practice squad. He was released from the practice squad at the end of October.
2018 will be a success if: Hodges shows some development. At 6’6” with a 40 time in the 4.5 range, he has physical tools that makes it easy to dream he could eventually turn into a player in this league.
Odds of making the roster: If you are going to consider the physical tools, you also have to consider the fact two teams quickly gave up on him in spite of the physical tools. Even with the lack of a proven commodity at tight end, I think Hodges’ best bet is probably the practice squad. To me he is a Longshot (less than 25%).
