The Jets announced the signing of sixth round pick, running back Trenton Cannon on Friday.

On the first day of their rookie minicamp, the Jets already have one draft choice signed, sealed and delivered. Sixth-round running back/kick returner Trenton Cannon has signed his rookie contract.

”I’m feeling good, just settling on in,” said Cannon, who said he signed his deal Thursday night shortly after he checked in for the minicamp. “Right now I’m getting into the playbook, learning the plays.”

It is no great shock to see Cannon sign so soon after the Draft. There isn’t much to negotiate. I have never seen a sixth round pick holdout. These contracts are simply a question of when the team gets around to them. The only deal that should require much negotiation will be Sam Darnold’s, but in the age of the rookie wage scale even that contract negotiation is unlikely to be difficult to get done.
