NY Jets podcast: Hackenberg traded; OTAs start

NFL: New York Jets-OTA Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY Sports

By the standards of a May weekday, Tuesday was pretty eventful for the Jets.

The team turned the page from a big mistake. Quarterback Christian Hackenberg was traded to the Oakland Raiders for a conditional seventh round pick. The writing has been on the wall for Hackenberg since last summer when he failed to win the starting quarterback job in preseason. Instead, his play was so poor that he lost the backup job to Bryce Petty. On day one of OTAs, Hackenberg saw minimal practice time and then made some comments to the press some viewed as critical of the coaching staff. The trade came just hours later.

In other news, the Jets did kick off their OTAs on Tuesday. We all would be wise to avoid drawing too many sweeping conclusions from one practice. The best news of the day was probably that Teddy Bridgewater was moving around on the field well as he tries to get his career back on track after a major knee injury.

These are the topics of today’s podcast.
