Vaccaro was a 2013 first round pick by the Saints who has spent his entire five year career to this point in New Orleans.
His play has been up and down at points through his career. He was limited to 12 games in 2017 due to injuries, and was also suspended 4 games in 2016.
The Jets don’t have a need for a starting safety with Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye both entering their second seasons. With that in mind, a Vaccaro signing would be done for help in subpackages and depth. He wouldn’t be a bad option for those jobs. Through his career, Vaccaro has profiled as a player who is better playing downhill against the run than in coverage. By the standards of players available at this time of year and holding down a backup job, you could do worse.
