The Jets have announced the re-signings of a pair of backup offensive linemen, Brent Qvale and Dakota Dozier.
Calling these guys “versatile” might be an overstatement. There are capable of lining up in multiple spots, but neither is a particularly effective player anywhere on the field. The Jets don’t exactly have stellar starters on the offensive line so as one might imagine, the backups are not that great either.
Dozier was a fourth round pick in the fabled Idzik Draft of 2014. He never was able to develop into a starting level player for the Jets, although he got some action over the last few years due to injuries on the offensive line.
Qvale was signed as an undrafted free agent that same year. The Jets offered him the low restricted free agent tender, which he signed. He will count for just under $2 million against the salary cap if he makes the team out of training camp.
The best case scenario would be guys with more upside outplaying Dozier and Qvale off the camp and taking them off the team.
