Nathan Shepherd selected by Jets with 72nd pick in 2018 NFL Draft

The Jets have selected Nathan Shepherd with the 72nd pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

In the Mike Maccagnan Era, the Jets have brought in a few players from the Canadian Football League in minor signings such as Freddie Bishop. Now they are investing a third round pick in a player who comes from north of the border.

He started his college career playing at (NCAA Division II) Simon Fraser University in British Columbia , Canada, before transferring to Fort Hays State (NCAA Division II) in Kansas as a walk on. He eventually earned a scholarship and went on to win his conference’s Defensive Player of the Year award.

Shepherd is old for a prospect at 24 years old, and there are always questions about how well small school prospects will transition to the NFL. With that said, he was 43rd in Mike Mayock’s top 100 prospect list. While Mayock’s word isn’t necessarily gospel, the Jets picking him at 72 would be excellent value on paper.
