With Draft day almost here, ESPN’s Mel Kiper and Todd McShay put together one last three round mock draft. They sent the Jets a quarterback and a running back.

3. New York Jets (from Indianapolis Colts)

Kiper’s pick: Sam Darnold, QB, USC

If the Giants pass on the second quarterback, the Jets should pounce. Darnold has to be more consistent with his mechanics.

72. New York Jets

McShay’s pick: Rashaad Penny, RB, San Diego State

C’mon, Kiper! I wanted Chubb for the Jets, but Penny is a good consolation prize. He can do it all.

Josh Allen went to Cleveland first overall, while Saquon Barkley went to the Giants second overall. Nick Chubb was the selection right before Penny, which explains McShay’s analysis of the Penny pick.

We don’t know whether the actual NFL Draft will follow any mock, but I’d be doing backflip if this was how things actually turned out. Darnold is a top quarterback prospect in this Draft, and Penny is both a good value in the third down and a good fit for the Jets in their new offensive system.
