Mike Maccagnan praises RB depth in 2018 NFL Draft; says little else

Today Mike Maccagnan held his predraft press conference. It is both an annual event and perhaps the biggest waste of time each season. No general manager is going to openly discuss his team’s Draft plan in detail just a few days before the event gets underway.

Maccagnan did not have much to say according to reporters who heard him. Here are some of the gems from the presser.

via NY Post:

As for what traits he might value in a quarterback, Maccagnan would rather talk about the legislature of Lichtenstein.

“I don’t want to sit here and say this is how we see players because, as I mentioned earlier, everybody is trying to figure out what the other team is trying to do,” Maccagnan said. “From a competitive standpoint, there’s lots of things we look at from a quarterback from the physical standpoint, from an intangibles standpoint.”

There was one interesting unsolicited nugget.

So perhaps the general manager let something slip and actually gave us a piece of genuinely interesting information about the way the Jets see this Draft shaking out.

Or perhaps it was a calculated move, and Maccagnan doesn’t actually like the running back class. You can never rule out a GM putting false information out there at this point to throw others off the scent.
