The release of the NFL schedule is tonight. That traditionally means pieces of the schedule will leak over the day before the official announcement. Brian Costello has the first piece of the puzzle. He reports the Jets will open 2018 in Detroit against the Lions. The game will be on Monday Night Football.
Gang Green’s 2018 campaign will begin in Detroit against the Lions on “Monday Night Football,” The Post has learned.
The Jets did not have any appearances on “Monday Night Football” last year and just one primetime game. Their last appearance on MNF did not go well, a 41-10 loss to the Colts on Dec. 5, 2016. ESPN has a doubleheader on MNF the opening weekend of the season.
Undoubtedly, the league wants the debut of whichever high profile quarterback the Jets draft to be in primetime.
The last time the Jets played in Detroit it was also a Monday night game, but the Buffalo Bills were their opponent. Snow in the Buffalo area forced the postponement and relocation of a game. That one didn’t go very well as the Jets lost 38-3.
