7 Round Mock

Round 1: Josh Rosen, QB

Yes the Jets need to do their due diligence on Sam Darnold and Josh Allen just in case they fall to 3 but we don't. Odds that either is available to us is less than 5% in my mind so really the choice comes down to Josh Rosen vs Baker Mayfield. I actually like both but give the edge to Rosen.

Rosen is the quintessential cerebral pocket passer if there ever was one with fantastic footwork, throwing motion and composure. Yes durability is a little bit of a concern but frankly we should focus on improving the offensive line if we want our QB to stay on the field. His leadership and maturity concerns are overblown imo. A QB who speaks his mind isn't immature and in fact is more likely to be a strong leader. As for Mora's words about him being a millenial that needs to be intellectually challenged etc - anyone who tries to make too much of those words is in my mind intellectually challenged

Mayfield is one damn accurate QB. They say his footwork isn't anywhere close to that of Brees but size and 'only good not great footwork' be damned if a QB can complete 70% of his passes and drum up a 43:6 TD-pick ratio. Love his ability to extend plays too. The fact that he played in a spread scheme is a little bit of a concern as is his cockiness - I'm less concerned about his on-field cockiness but more about his willingness to learn and adapt to a NFL offense.

Like I said I like both but give the edge to Rosen

Round 3: Arden Key, OLB (DE in college)

Arden is the key (pun intended) to an edge pass rush that we so sorely need. Yes our secondary looks solid now but the vast majority of QBs in the league will burn us if given adequate time. And no neither Mauldin nor Jenkins have had any success getting to the QB. Yes Arden has discipline concerns and his 2017 campaign was less than stellar but that's the only reason he could drop to Rd 3. He has the length, speed and moves to blossom into a dangerous pass rusher

Round 4: Duke Ejiofor, DE

Duke could very well become our Wilkerson replacement (or at the very least we'll have one royal player on our team - no seriously he's from a royal family). He isn't the most gifted athlete but an all round solid DE with balanced size and speed on the edge. He's strong, has great hands, is a solid tackler and shows a few crafty moves every now and then. Consistency will come with time and training.

Round 5: Desmond Harrison, OT

No Bowles and Mike, Shell and Qvale are not starting caliber right tackles and they may never be, Can we at least throw another hat into the ring? Desmond is raw but has tremendous potential (therefore may be wishful thinking that he falls this far). He is 6' 6" and 288 lbs but has the speed of an ex-basketball player (which he was). He'll need to pack on a few pounds and mature (does have a few off-field concerns) but this deep in the draft you can't get everything.

Round 6: Chris Campbell, CB

Long and athletic with decent (not great) ball skills. Has the potential to guard tall receivers. Works hard so could develop into a CB2/3 over time

Round 7: Martez Carter, RB

Martez can be explosive - the dude averaged nearly 8 yards per carry in 2016! He is fast but patient at the same time and did I say he's a solid receiver. We could use a home-run threat in our backfield or as a returner!

Let me know what you guys think!
