Bruce Arians to visit Jets training camp in 2018

NFL: Arizona Cardinals at Seattle Seahawks Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

In his weekly Sunday post, ESPN’s Rich Cimini reports former Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians will be paying a visit to Jets training camp this summer.

Yes, retired coach Bruce Arians will visit training camp this summer as Todd Bowles’ guest. No, the so-called quarterback whisperer won’t be coaching. It’s strictly a social call. Bowles said his former college coach/boss/mentor will be wearing flip-flops and sunglasses and enjoying some R&R.

”He’ll be his usual charismatic self,” Bowles said with a laugh. “You’ll have more entertainment with him than you will with me. I can tell you that much.”

Truth.

Arians said shortly after he retired from the Cardinals that he would take part in a 2018 training camp and listed the Jets as a possibility so this isn’t a great shock.

Truth be told, this is the kind of story that could easily get overhyped.

Is Arians going to have a major role in camp? No.

Is this a precursor to Arians coming out of retirement and joining the Jets’ coaching staff? No.

It can’t hurt to have a guy with his experience around camp, though. It might help on the margins to giving the coaching staff a little time to pick his brain.
