The NFL salary cap for the year 2018 is now set. The league reportedly informed owners on Monday it will be $177.2 million.
Teams have been notified the NFL salary cap has been set at $177.2 million, sources say.— Mike Garafolo (@MikeGarafolo) March 5, 2018
It is another increase. The cap was at $167 million in 2017. It might sound counterintuitive, but the smaller the increase the more the Jets would have benefited. Another million or two would not make a huge different to a team with a ton of cap room like the Jets. A bigger increase, however, might make a big difference to a team deciding whether to keep a player around of make him a cap casualty.
Where do the Jets stand in relation to the cap? Over the Cap currently gives the Jets $89.2 million in salary cap room. Of course, there is bad that comes with that. You can’t get that much cap space unless you lack quality players on your roster. Those guy get contracts that take up a good chunk of cap space.
